March 2017.. From the main man..
So the Hilary term has ground to a halt, amid a cloud of daffodils and other signs of spring.
Comments in the bar on Monday indicated a high level of satisfaction with the term's events, and especially with the last: Derek Nash provided a master class on the sax, as well as a fascinating insight into the birth of an album. Congratulations to everyone on remembering that it was indeed a Monday, rather than the usual Tuesday.
Our Treasurer tells me that it has been another successful term financially - he has had to invest in a third sock under his bed!
The schedule for next term is attached - it starts on April 11th. The sharp-eyed among you will notice that this is the Tuesday before Easter, which is due to a regrettable lack of consultation with the Vatican. Procedures have been put in place to prevent this happening again.
Other than that, it looks as full of interest and variety as usual, and I commend it to you - thanks to Joe for his ongoing identification of new talent (applause). We did worry at first that we might run out of speakers at some point, but there seems little sign of it.
For those of you in need of some Jazz to tide them over, I can offer a benefit gig for Jim Mullen, who is in hospital. It's on Wed 22 March http://www.606club.co.uk/ Joe and Max will be there, and others are welcome. It’s best to book and have a meal, since their drinks licence prohibits the sale of booze to anyone not having a meal.
Tonight you can see John Horler at Imber Court (i.e. Friday 17th March) with Andrew Cleyndert and Alan Barnes. A great line-up - sorry for the late notice.
FInally. Mary Sinfield offers to take RRC members as her guests to shows at the Reform Club. Simon Spillett plays Tubby Hayes on 20 March. Chris Ingham musically illustrates "jazz at the movies" with commentary on 10 April. Tickets: £25 Contact Mary for more details.
Enough! See you in April, if not before..
PS If you have lost interest in the RRC and don't want these emails any more, let me know and I will take you off the list.
